Tokyo Joshi Pro 1/20/24 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro kicks off the 4th Futari-wa Princess Max Heart Tournament today with Round 1. Started during the pandemic in 2021, it has become the promotion’s annual tag team tournament, usually held in January & February. This year’s edition has 11 teams with 22 participants that comprise almost the entire available roster. That means 3 teams get free passes to the Quarterfinals with all the Round 1 matches today.

While it won’t affect the card or tournament, the promotion also announced Mizuki is off today’s event. Scheduling conflicts.

Today’s went will be held at Club eX in Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE. There will likely he no commentary. There are only 5 matches but we don’t know the time limits for the matches yet, however there also is a DDT event after this so it will likely be short, no more than maybe 2 hours. (Early show update: No time limit for tournament matches)

Today’s lineup:
Yuki Aino, RIka Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe vs. Suzume, Arisu Endo & Shino Suzuki
Tournament Round 1:
Kaya Toribami & Haru Kazashiro vs. Yuki Arai & Wakana Uehara
Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao vs. Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu
Nao Kakuta & HIMAWARI vs. Raku & Pom Harajuku
Tournament Quarterfinals:

6:30 PM PT UPDATE: Live updates begin now.

We are LIVE from Club eX in Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. There is no commentary. Looks like it’s a hard-camera only view today.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event. It looks like a small venue with 2 levels of seating, the lower level seems pretty full (not completely) but not so much the upper level. I don’t know the exact capacity but from the opening shot is looks like it will be around 250. (We’ll maybe find out later because the upcoming DDT event after this is a legit advance sellout) (UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 263)

The matches will begin shortly.

Injury Report: Those Exploding Bat Shots REALLY Do Hurt

Toi Kojima competed in a death match in DDT yesterday alongside Atsushi Onita, and while it may be worth it as he now is All-Asia Tag Team Champion, he worked through injury and those exploding bat shots among other bings aggravated and worsened it, so add his name to the ever growing sidelined roster. Rib cartilage fracture. Out a month. Expected to return on 2/14. It’s now known is this will affect the titles, that is partly up to All-Japan.

BREAKING: DDT Veteran Retiring

DDT held an emergency press conference earlier today, which was for a surprise announcement: Yukio Sakaguchi will retire on 2/7. A translation of a news item on DDT’s website indicates it is for personal reasons. Sakaguchi, 50, is the son of legendary wrestler Seiji Sakaguchi and has been active since 2007. No retirement tour or anything like that and a retirement match is TBA but based on what he requested, it could be a match against HARASHIMA or Hideki Okatani. (Edit: It will be HARASHIMA)
