Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling “City Circuit-Nagoya Performance” 9/4/22 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro continues their “City Circuit” series today as part of a busy weekend for wrestling in Nagoya, and since they are in the hometown of all-girl J-pop megagroup SKE48, the group that counts Yuki Arai among its members will have a big presence today. Arai herself will join 4 of her “teammates” for a special live mini-concert during the event, then she and Saki Akai will try and defend the Princess Tag Team Championship against Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu. Both challengers have beaten Arai in recent weeks so the momentum is not on the champions’ side. Can Arai’s teammates help lift AA Eye Candy to a first successful defense? And vocal support will be allowed too so hopefully the fans can cheer Arai on to victory!

Today’s event will be held at Nagoya Congress Center in Nagoya and can be watched LIVE on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese. The commentary team will be Haruo Murata & Kagehiro Osano, with Arai’s fellow SKE48 teammate Marika Tani as a special guest on commentary (she will also be a guest for DDT’s event after this one). Note that the SKE48 performance during the event will be available as part of the on demand replay for only one month after today. Since there is a DDT event shortly after this event it can’t run too long but it will be longer than usual-I anticipate the running time being around 2 1/2 hours.

The paid attendance will be announced after the event, but based on advance sales it could be a legit sellout. If not, it’ll be close, so possibly right around 1000. (It’s not a legit sellout, but looks like at least 95% full)

Time for the SKE48 live mini-concert performance! The first song performed is their hit song “Finally”. No English title for the second song. The third song performed is called “Stand by you”. The vocal crowd is making this an AWESOME performance. I know they’re trying to keep the coronavirus in check but the increase in vocal support allowed at wrestling events in Japan is a big step towards normalcy and restoring an important tradition in the sport. Afterwards, the girls have some fun with ring announcer Sayuri Namba & Miu Watanabe, then Maki Itoh comes out. It’s well known that Itoh is not a fan of Arai in the ring. After this and photo ops for the ringside media, one more song. This concludes the performance, which went just over 20 minutes total. Remember you only have one month to watch this portion of the event on demand! (DDT’s website noted afterwards that Itoh will be MC for the SSKE48 14th Anniversary Festival on 9/25)

No challengers emerged and the crowd goes home happy. And best of all, Arai is still a champion.

The next event is a TJPW INSPIRATION event on 9/11 at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo, the latest in their series of occasional special events that feature mostly comedy matches and outsider participation and are much shorter events-this one has just 4 matches scheduled, so it will only go about an hour. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin Saturday at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT.

UPDATE: The announced paid attendance was 640, a legit sellout. Did I ever grossly overestimate! But they still were just a few empty seats from 100% full, I’d say pess than 20.

New Japan continued the BURNING SPIRIT Tour today with a house show in Nagoya, kicking off a very busy weekend of wrestling in the city with multiple events scheduled today and tomorrow.

Today’s event was held at Nagoya Congress Center in Nagoya. This was a non-televised event and no on demand video will be available.

The announced paid attendance was 939.

Great-O-Khan missed today’s event, as expected, due to appearing in Pro Wrestling NOAH.

Match 1: The DKC beat Ryohei Oiwa.

Match 2: Dick Togo, Sho, Yujiro Takahashi & EVIL beat Yuto Nakashima, Yoh, YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto. SHo beat Nakajims with Snake Bite.

Ganbare Pro ran an event after Tokyo Joshi Pro today, headlined by a Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Championship match as Yumehito Imanari defended against Hartley Jackson.

Tokyo Joshi Pro 9/3/22 Results

Tokyo Joshi Pro began their seasonal Autumn/Fall 2022 House Show tour today with a small house show ahead of their big Nagoya event tomorrow.

Today’s event was held at Narimasu Act Hall in Tokyo and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later date. There was no live broadcast.

The announced paid attendance was 165.

During the opening, a WRESTLE UNIVERSE members-only event was announced for 10/24 at Kitazawa Town Hall. The Up Up Girls performance was a solo by Miu Watanabe because no Hikari Noa (returning from her first international excursion. She will be back tomorrow).

Match 1: Yuki Aino beat Moka Miyamoto.

Match 2: Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe beat Suzume & Neko Haruna. Tatsumi pinned Haruna after Twist Of Fate.

Match 3: Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu beat Shoko Nakajima & Arisu Endo. Kiryu pinned Endo.

Match 4: In a “Sour Sweet Citric Acid” 2 Count Match, where besides a 2 count pinfall to win there was also a special rule where after a 1 count or rope escape you had to drink a glass of concentrated lemon juice to continue, Nao Kakuta beat Hyper Misao.

Main Event: Miyu Yamashita, Maki Itoh & Raku beat Yuka Sakazaki, Mizuki & Pom Harajuku. Raku pinned Harajuku after Doctor Yellow. Very significant moment-this is Raku’s first career main event victory, at least one that she was directly responsible for.

The next event is tomorrow at Nagoya Congress Center in Nagoya. Vocal cheering by fans will be allowed (no streamers or support banners though). It will be headlined by Princess Tag Team Champions Yuki Arai & Saki Akai vs. Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu for the titles and a special SKE48 live mini-performance with Arai and 4 of her SKE48 teammates, which hopefully will be enough of a boost to lift AA Eye Candy to a successful title defense after Arai took tough losses to both challengers recently. SKE48 teammate Marika Tani will be on commentary for the event, and will stick around for the DDT event afterwards. Live streaming on WRESTLE UNIVERSE will begin TONIGHT at 11:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT. Pro Wrestling NOAH 9/3/22 Results & News

Pro Wrestling NOAH wrapped up the N-1 VICTORY 2022 Tournament today with a major event, which would determine who gets the next GHC Heavyweight Championship opportunity. The Great Muta also would make his final Osaka appearance among other big matches.

Today’s event was held at Osaka Prefectural Gym in Osaka and can be watched on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE in Japanese and English. YOu can also watch the first 2 matches FOR FREE on YouTube for a limited time.

The announced paid attendance was 2988, a full house/near sellout. A very badly needed strong number. Between capacity limits (Osaka has been among the strictest with limits during the pandemic) and the setup today, that likely was close to a legit sellout.

Main Event; N-1 VICTORY 2022 Finals: Kaito Kiyomiya beat Hideki Suzuki to win the tournament. As a result, Kiyomiya will get the next shot at GHC Heavyweight Champion Kenoh. That match will happen on 9/25 at Aichi Prefectural Gym.

The next event is 9/15 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. This is scheduled to be an ABEMA live broadcast in Japan ONLY, and will be available on demand on WRESTLE UNIVERSE at a later time/date. (UPDATE: WRESTLE UNVIERSE will have a live broadcast in English)

As usual with a major NOAH event, lots of post-event news:
Injury Report: Daisuke Harada, who was tentatively scheduled to return to action today, did not and remains out indefinitely due to a neck injury.
Shiozaki was injured during his match, likely at or near the end. Unspecified but appeared to be left arm/elbow/shoulder based on his reaction after the finish, he was clutching what appeared to be his elbow or bicep area and clearly looked in pain. Out indefinitely with more details to come.
THe second match of the Keiji Muto 5 Match Retirement Series was revealed today: On 9/25 it will be Muto & Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Masakatsu Funaki & Katsuhiko Nakajima.
Daishi/Daiji/Taishi (not sure of his exact first name from translation) Ozawa, the first new NOAH wrestler since Yasutaka Yano 2 years ago, will make his Debut on 9/15. Ozawa, 25, is from Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture and has been training at the NOAH Dojo for just over one year. He became a pro wrestling fan after watching on TV as a child and began gymnastics in high school, citing Mexican wrestler Mistico as inspiration. His Debut Match will be against Yoshiki Inamura. The promotion has launched a special support campaign for Ozawa’s debut-fans and sponsors in Japan can go to NOAH’s online shop and, for 30,000 yen (around $225 US) can submit a support message to Ozawa and it will be published during the opening of the 9/15 event and on NOAH’s official Teitter account, and at a later date an autographed portrait and program will be sent. This promotion starts today in Japan and runs through 9/10. Special Project Sponsor The Reeve (one of NOAH’s main sponsors) has already posted a support message from Representative Director Kazuhiro Sato.
GHC National Champion Masakatsu Funaki vs. Masa Kitamiya for the title has been announced for 9/30 in Niigata.

New Japan 9/2/22 Results

New Japan began the BURNING SPIRIT tour today, their September tour with a throwback title continuing the year-long 50th Anniversary celebration.

Today’s event was held at Yokohama Budokan in Yokohama and can be watched on demand on New Japan World in Japanese. English should be available soon. You can also watch the first 2 matches FOR FREE on the New Japan World YouTube channel for a limited time.

The announced paid attendance was 1421.

DEVELOPING: TJPW’s Noa Fails In EVE Title Match

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling star Hikari Noa is on her first international excursion, appearing earlier today in England’s Pro Wrestling EVE promotion as she attempted to win the International Princess Championship back from current champion Alex Windsor. Unfortunately for the TJPW faithful, Noa failed as Windsor won in just under 15 minutes to retain the title. V1 for Windsor.
Noa will miss Saturday’s TJPW event because of being at this event, but is expected back for Sunday. No word on when/if Windsor may be back to defend the title. Also, EVE announced earlier this summer that Hyper Misao will be headed there for an appearance in November, so TJPW stars headed to England for EVE and vice cersa could become a regular thing in the future.
The event can be watched on demand on the Pro Wrestling EVE YouTube channel, but the portion of the event with the match is behind a paywall. It probably will cost at least $10 to watch.
